Export and import conversations

Save a whole conversation or export one split and its branches.

Export a conversation

  1. Open the conversation's actions in the sidebar.
  2. Choose an export format.
  3. Save the downloaded file somewhere you can find it later.

JSON and .mstyconv exports can be imported into Msty. A .mstyconv file packages the conversation and its attachment files together and is useful for conversations with larger attachments.

Export one split

Open Split Options → Export Chat, then choose:

  • Active Branch as JSON for the selected message path.
  • Active Branch as Markdown for a readable text copy.
  • All Branches as JSON to retain the split's alternatives.

Copy Chat offers the same choices for the clipboard. Markdown is a readable export, not a full conversation backup.

Import into a project

  1. Open the destination project's actions in the sidebar.
  2. Choose Import Conversation.
  3. Select a conversation JSON or .mstyconv export and complete the import.

Use an export produced by Msty; an arbitrary JSON chat transcript may not have the required format.

Conversation exports are separate from workspace backups. Before moving all your data, use the backup and export options for the whole workspace as well.
